Why do I need to get a replacement card?
Unfortunately, due to Brexit, financial products issued in the UK are no longer licensed to operate in the EU after 1st January 2021. Because of that, the Central Bank of Ireland ordered that these legacy Allgo Mastercard Gift Cards be withdrawn from service. Allgo is working with the Issuer and the Central Bank of Ireland to comply with this legal requirement.
Are my card funds secure?
Yes. The card funds on the legacy Allgo Mastercard gift cards are securely held in a UK bank, segregated from Allgo’s own bank accounts, and regulated by the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). The card funds for your replacement Allgo Mastercard gift card will be held in a secure bank account in Ireland, segregated from Allgo’s own bank accounts, and regulated by the Central Bank of Ireland.
Why wasn’t I notified in advance?
Allgo was not given advance notice by the Central Bank of Ireland or Railsbank that the Allgo Mastercard legacy gift cards would stop working in April 2021. We had requested a 60 day notice period be given so that we could inform client companies who ordered from us before June 2020. Unfortunately, this request wasn’t implemented.
In addition, we don’t hold contact details for our legacy cardholders, we only have contact details for the companies who purchased the cards. Given the uncertainties around Brexit and how it might impact on UK-issued gift cards, we had posted an advisory notice on our legacy card website – allgorewards.com – since October 2020, advising cardholders to spend their card balance before January 2021. We know that not everyone would have seen this message, and with shops largely closed because of COVID, we fully realise that not all our cardholders would have been able to spend their legacy card balances anyway.
When legacy cardholders check their card balance now on allgorewards.com, a message now informs them to apply for a free replacement card.
We have also contacted all companies that purchased legacy cards from us to inform them of the situation and the process of issuing replacement cards. Ultimately, we are relying on cardholders to contact us to have their legacy cards replaced with new Irish-issued ones. We sincere apologise apologise for the inconvenience this will cause.
How long will I have to wait for my replacement card?
As at 10.06.2021, we are still waiting for Railsbank to arrange for the card funds to be transferred from the secure UK bank account to our Irish settlement bank account. Allgo has taken the decision to pre-fund replacement cards for everyone who has applied for a replacement card up to 10.05.2021 – ie use our own funds in order to speed up the process for cardholders how have been waiting over a month for their replacement card.
Once the full funds are transferred and all final legacy card balances conformed by Railsbank, Allgo will validate all remaining replacement card requests and issue replacement cards without delay.
We are hoping to be able to issue replacement cards in June 2021, though this depends very much on Railsbank. In the meantime, we would ask all legacy cardholders to complete the legacy card replacement form, so we can keep you informed on progress.
Are there any costs to me for the replacement card?
No, none. We will send you one of our new Allgo Mastercard Gift Cards securely for free, and you will benefit from a suspension of the €3 card management fee until 2022, giving you more time to spend your card without incurring any charges. For all costs associated with the Allgo Mastercard Gift Card, please see the FAQ section on allgogiftcard.com/yourcard
How can I check what balance I should have on my legacy card?
You can still use the balance checker on allgorewards.com to check the balance on your legacy card, and see what card value you will receive on your replacement card.
Who can I contact if I have more questions?
